As the Sun Times reports, a woman was shot in the leg after she struggled with two male attackers who stole her property in the West Loop, near the intersection of Randolph St and Halsted St early Friday. The men succeeded at taking her property after a struggle and as they were fleeing, fired shots at the woman, striking her in the leg.
Chicago has multiple shooting just about every day, despite the decades long (and likely unconstitutional) handgun ban. However, it is rarer to have a shooting in the West Loop. This shooting serves to underscore the fact that criminals will ignore the handgun ban, and can attack law abiding citizens anywhere. Perhaps if this woman had been allowed by the law to have a handgun for self defense, she would have been better able to defend herself, as many countless other citizens have done. But instead, only the criminals were armed, and the result was a robbed and shot citizen.
