As reported, a City of Chicago worker who was putting boot on an older Buick coupe was reportedly shot in the back by the car’s owner. The Department of Revenue worker was listed in serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after the shooting. The 35-year-old revenue worker was booting the car when a man who claimed to be the owner attacked him with a stick, ran away down an alley, and then he re-emerged with a .22 caliber pistol.
The city of Chicago has had a handgun ban for the overwhelming majority of this author’s life, yet the murder rate is up 18%, it is not uncommon to have 5 handgun related murder in 12 hours, and one chicago teenager has been shot 3 times this year. The handgun ban just isn’t working, as the type of person who is willing to shoot a city employee in broad daylight for booting their car is not the type of person who will obey the handgun ban. The same is true for anyone willing to commit a serious felony such as armed robbery, murder, rape, or home invasion.
Perhaps if the city workers placing boots on the cars of scofflaws were armed, criminals would think twice before attacking them – and the same holds true for allowing ordinary citizens to carry a self defense firearm.
No, the city workers should be shot for illegally placing a boot on another person’s property. Plus, if the city doesn’t want someone to part in a location, why put a boot on it. Also placing a boot on another person’s car would make that boot their boot since they are in possession of the boot.
