As I previously mentioned, armed robbery in Oak Park, IL is up over 250% this year, Instead of stepping up police patrols to protect residents, Oak Park is cutting back on police protection and wasting money trying to uphold their pointless handgun ban. Since criminals like easy targets (such as unarmed Oak Park residents), the armed robberies continue:
- A criminal on the 500 block of South Lombard Avenue displayed a shiny handgun and demanded an Oak Park woman’s belongings. The woman was relieved of her wallet, credit cards, identification, and cellphone.
- A woman was robbed in her own garage on the 1100 block of Wesley Avenue by a criminal who flashed a black pistol. He robbed the woman of her cellphone and wallet containing $33, then escaped in a vehicle.
- A man standing in his garage was approached by another man who showed a black revolver and demanded his wallet. The man lost $180 along with the other contents of his wallet.
Hopefully the NRA’s lawsuit, which seeks to abolish Oak Park’s (likely unconstitutional) handgun ban, will allow the law abiding citizens of Oak Park to have handguns for self defense. Then, perhaps, criminals will think twice before robbing or invading the homes of Oak Park residents.
