I read an interesting post which pointed out that more Chicago residents have been killed than US soldiers in Iraq this summer – by a factor of 2! This is despite Chicago’s longstanding handgun ban.
A map of the Chicago shootings for Summer 2008 has also been created.
It is worth nothing that overall violence in Iraq (including Iraqi civilians) is certainly higher than overall violence in Chicago, however it is amazing that an American is less likely to be killed if serving as a soldier in Iraq then if living in Chicago.
Gun control just doesn’t work. What we need are armed citizens who can defend themselves, rather than be at the mercy of gun-ban-ignoring criminals.
