As reported, there was another armed robbery in Oak Park, despite the handgun ban:
An Oak Park woman who was walking home along the 100 block of S. Humphrey, having just left the Austin Avenue Green Line stop, was robbed at gunpoint. The robber approach the woman and started asking questions about her iPod. After she declined his request to hold the iPod, the criminal pulled out his silver revolver and pointed it at her head. She handed over the iPod to avoid being shot.
During the same week there were multiple burglaries, as well as a robbery in which a group of people attacked and beat a juvenile, in order to steal his iPod and cell phone.
Oak Park should join the other suburbs of Chicago and repeal the ineffective, unjust, and likely unconstitutional handgun ban. It is time to admit the truth: the handgun ban has not stopped crime, which should come as no surprise, since a person willing to commit armed robbery, murder, etc. won’t fear a $1,000 fine for gun possession. Instead, the law abiding people obey the ban, and are left defenseless against the still-armed criminals.
