In a couple of previous articles, I’ve mentioned that criminals will sometimes invade the wrong house, with deadly results. There was recently another such home invasion in a suburb of Chicago:
Four men are in police custody after the shooting of a man during a home invasion Thursday night in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Two armed men entered a home in the 4300 block of West 100th Street at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, realized they were in the wrong home and forced their way into a neighboring home, Oak Lawn Police Chief Bill Villanova reportedly said. They argued with and eventually shot a 38-year-old man in the head, Villanova reportedly said. More information here.
Being a law abiding and peace loving citizen is not enough to be safe from criminals. Whether it is an “accidental” invasion of the wrong home, or a random home invasion, law abiding citizens need a means of defending themselves. Remember, the police can’t get there in time, and aren’t liable for failing to save a citizen. So please, have a gun for home defense and follow the rules of gun safety.
