As reported, a South Philadelphia resident shot and killed a violent burglar after being attacked in his own home, on the 1900 block of Montrose Street, police said. The resident returned home to find a man hiding behind his bedroom door. He drew his lawfully owned handgun (for which he had a concealed carry permit) and asked the criminal to leave his home. The criminal, who was 6 feet tall and weighed about 200 pounds, refused and tried to grab the gun. The citizen fired one shot in self defense after wrestling with the criminal.
Once again, cases like this are why I have a gun, and support gun rights. Burglaries can turn deadly, and having a means of self defense can be the difference between living to see another day, and dying at the hands of a criminal. While I sincerely hope that I’m never put in the situation of shooting a criminal in my home, I rest easier knowing that I could defend myself and my loved ones if the need arose.
