As the Chicago Tribune reports, the Morton Grove, Illinois handgun ban has been repealed by a 5-1 vote of the village board. The move to repeal the Morton Grove handgun ban attracted little controversy, Village Administrator Joe Wade stated. Only a few Morton Grove residents came to a meeting earlier this month, when the repeal was first on the agenda. The opinions at the meeting were fairly evenly split, Wade said. Fighting in court to try to keep the [likely unconstitutional] law would cost money the village does not have, officials said.
Morton Grove is the latest Illinois city to repeal their handgun ban, following in the wake of Wilmette, IL. Given the utter ineffectiveness of handgun bans, and the injustice such laws inflict upon law abiding citizens who only wish to defend themselves from criminals, I sincerely hope that Oak Park and Chicago abolish their handgun bans as well.
