As KXAN reports, a woman from Austin, Texas was able to fend off an attacker by shooting him in the face.
Leonie Burgos reportedly saw a man scale the fence at her home, ran inside and grabbed her .38 caliber pistol, after which point the attacker tackled her from behind. She fired three times, striking the alleged assailant Christopher Benavides (who was already wanted on two warrants) in the face, KXAN reports. The attacker than ran off, and was later located alive at an emergency room, then placed under arrest by the police.
It is cases like this (and many others) that really highlight the need for law abiding citizens to have and exercise their right to handgun ownership for self defense. It is clear that the criminals who want to have a gun will get one, and gun bans will only serve to disarm the law abiding citizens, with often tragic results. For those reasons I aplaud the Supreme Court’s ruling in D.C. v. Heller, and sincerely hope that the handgun bans in cities such as Chicago and Oak Park are soon struck down.
