As reported, an armed robber entered the BP gas station located at 1959 17th Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. He then threatened the clerk while demanding money. The clerk grabbed his self defense gun from behind the counter, and shot the robber. After being shot, the robber fled, only to collapse outside the gas station. The robber was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Neither the clerk nor any customers were harmed.
When law abiding citizens are armed and therefore able to defend themselves, this is how robberies will often end – with the victims unharmed, and the criminal off the streets. Rather than being shot for not having enough money, or being shot just because the robbers felt like hurting him, this clerk will go home uninjured. The armed robber, who believed that it was OK to threaten the life of a hard working person in order to steal money, will be in jail and unable to harm other people. Since armed robbers tend to be career criminals, it is likely that this clerk’s actions have saved many other people from being robbed by this criminal. Armed self defense just works, plain and simple.
