As reported, three home invaders kicked in a door on the 11900 block of Madison Oak in Harris County, TX. The home owner shot one of the robbers in the eye, and all three criminals fled. The home owner was unharmed. Police apprehended 3 suspects, including one with an eye injury, when they arrived at a nearby hospital. Police believe that these same suspects may have been involved in another home invasion nearby, where criminals kicked in a door, fatally shot a dog, and then fled when they heard police sirens. The home invaders are also said to have impersonated the police when kicking in the door.
I’ll spend little time stating the obvious here, as this is yet another successful example of armed self defense, just as happens about 2.5 million times each year in the USA. Had this man not been armed, he may have been shot by these home invaders, as happens all too often.
While I find all home invasions to be unsettling, to say the least, the first home invasion mentioned in the news story, where the criminals killed the family’s dog, really saddened me. As I’ve said before, I see pets as valued members of the family, and find their loss to be as devastating as the loss of a human member of the family. The fact that any human would murder a beloved pet in order to break in and steal money is terrible, and I extend my deepest sympathies to that family.
For a person to murder a dog is about as low as murdering another human. A person that will treat an animal with cruelty will treat his neighbor the same.
