As reported, Miguel Jimenez was walking home to his apartment when 18 year old Andri Benjamin and an alleged accomplice ran up to him, put a gun to his head, and tried to rob him. Miguel had a concealed carry permit, and was lawfully carrying a handgun for self defense. Miguel reportedly pulled out his handgun and fatally shot Benjamin in self defense, then held the other alleged robber at gunpoint until police arrived.
Once again, concealed carry has allowed a law abiding person who was going about their peaceful business to defend themselves from unprovoked and violent attack. Had Miguel not been armed, he could have been shot by the robber for not having enough money to steal, or perhaps just because the robber felt like harming someone that day. Make no mistake about it: robbery is a violent crime against a person’s body and life, and as such constitutes a deadly threat. Miguel’s self defense actions should be commended, as he not only saved himself, but also likely prevented this robber from going on to victimize many other people over the coming years.
I live in Orange County, California.
And if this happen to me, I would only have my knife to defend myself.
The Sheriff does not think that the average subject should be able to defend them self.
I wounder how Mr Jimenez got his permit?
This is Orange County, Florida… a "shall issue" state. That's why he could get a permit.
Anders,
Wow you're right, total error on my part. Thanks for pointing that out!
[I was looking at a CA self defense story, and a FL self defense story at the same time, and must of got the wrong state…]
