As reported, a bill has been introduced by Michigan state Senator Randy Richardville that would allow those with valid concealed carry permits to lawfully carry on college campuses:
Those opposed to gun rights like to suggest that allowing guns near schools or students will result in violence and mayhem. This is simply not the case. Instead, as the evidence makes clear, concealed carry permit holders are some of the most law abiding members of society – more law abiding than even your average cop. Such concealed carry permit holders are not the source of danger to our college students. Instead, the real danger stems from violent criminals, who are clearly willing to ignore laws that tell them not to have a gun on school grounds. “Gun free zone” laws just ensure that those still-armed criminals are able to go to schools and find defenseless victims, as our country’s wost mass killings show.
As a concrete example, I would offer the following case from May 2009 in College Park, Georgia: In that case, a university student was having a birthday party with 9 friends when a pair of armed home invaders broke in through a patio door. The criminals demanded that everyone hand over their cell phone and wallets. Next, the home invaders separated the men from the women, preparing to rape the women. At this time, the two criminals confirmed with each other that they had enough bullets to kill everyone when they were done. One of the students then grabbed his gun from his backpack, and opened fire on the criminals, fatally injuring one of them, and saving the lives of all 10 innocent students. Had this student not carried his gun in his backpack, it is likely that the women would have been raped, and then all 10 of victims would have been murdered.
I would like to applaud Senator Richardville for introducing this legislation, and encourage those in Michigan to contact their elected officials to voice their support
