As reported, Ormond Beach, FL Police say that 38 year old Christopher Young and 31 year old William Bell broke in to Dane Rollin’s house early in the morning, armed with handguns. After breaking in, the two alleged robbers are said to have stolen money from Rollin, while threatening his life. During the robbery, Rollin reportedly grabbed his self defense shotgun, and shot the two alleged home invaders in self defense. Police reportedly found Young and Bell nearby, with multiple gunshot wounds, while Rollin was unharmed.
When a citizen’s home is invaded, that citizen may suffer torture or death – and complying with the criminals demands is no guarantee that they will refrain from harming the victim. Running away from the criminal often doesn’t work out any better, and is often not even a viable option when cornered/surrounded by criminals.
However gun ownership can often prevent those tragic outcomes. As this case and countless others show, armed citizens can and do defend themselves against home invaders, would-be murderers, armed robbers, and every other kind of violent attacker. Looking at the statistics, the benefits of gun ownership for self defense becomes even clearer.
