Illinois State Representative Patricia Bellock has posed an online survey. One of the questions asks whether you support concealed carry. I would encourage IL residents to take this survey, and also contact their representatives to voice support for concealed carry. As it stands, IL is the only state besides Wisconsin that has no concealed carry provision, and the ONLY state that bans both concealed carry and open carry. Not surprisingly, criminals ignore the ban on carrying a gun, and prey on unarmed victims. This situation is simply unjust, and needs to change.

I did so, and said this in the field asking what the first order of business should be for the legislature:
"Legalize concealed carry. I know I'm not in your district, but those of us in Chicago who oppose the views of our representatives (on this, as well as other issues) are strongly outnumbered here and thus have no voice in our state government. The best we can hope for is to be indirectly represented by legislators in other districts."
I plagiarized your "Guns For Self Defense" comment to post in my examination rooms and waiting room (copy attached). I hope you don't mind. I've told a lot of my patients about your website so please keep posting.

Guns for Self Defense
Like the millions of law abiding gun owners in America, I am a peace loving person. I own firearms so that I can defend myself and my family should that need arise. While I sincerely hope that I am never in the position of having to fire a gun in self defense, I rest easier at night knowing that I could stop an armed robber, attacker, terrorist, or home invader. I also rest easier knowing that my wife could stop a rapist or murderer rather than becoming a victim. The simple fact is that gun control laws don’t stop criminals from getting guns and instead only disarm the law abiding citizens, making them easier targets for the criminals. It is not justifiable to deprive law abiding citizens of their constitutional right to keep and bear arms for self defense just because criminals misuse guns, just as criminals misuse other tools.
Given those facts, I would encourage my fellow law abiding citizens who do not yet own a gun to do the following: go shooting for the first time, take a firearm safety course sponsored by the NRA, choose and purchase the proper gun for self defense, become proficient at using that gun safely, and store the gun in a responsible manner. Next, join the NRA to protect your right to have a gun for self defense. Doing the above may save your life one day or the life of a loved one, and can also benefit society as a whole.
“If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”
I don't mind at all, Bill. In fact, I'm glad to see a doctor taking a pro gun rights stance. My last doctor was rather anti gun it seems: http://www.learnaboutguns.com/2008/12/18/my-docto…
And thanks for spreading the word about my website 🙂
