As reported, Mark Brown returned to his Houston, TX home at about 9:30 AM, and heard an unusual noise that sounded like a burglar. Brown is said to have grabbed a shotgun from his bedroom. The burglar then reportedly jumped out of a bedroom closet and rushed towards him, causing Brown to fear for his safety. Brown fired in self defense, fatally wounding the intruder and saving himself, police say. Brown, who has lived on the same street for the last 50 years, was unharmed and is not expected to face any charges.
Home invasions constitute a deadly threat to the occupants. The criminals who commit such crimes often murder, shoot, stab, torture, kidnap, and permanently injure and disfigure their victims. The result is that the lives of law abiding, innocent people can be ended or ruined in an instant, all because of a criminal’s desire to make a quick buck. The good news is that gun owners like this man can, and do, stop such criminals every day. Society as a whole benefits as well, as a criminal who is stopped by an armed citizen today will be unable to victimize another person tomorrow.
His split second reaction probably saved Mr. Brown's life along with his competency with his weapon & the knowledge of what he had to do to discharge it. A trigger lock or a gun cable safety or a gun vault can result in what happens in a life or death situation however one must also take responsability for the safety of children & any & all your visitors.
Common sense & firearm education is a must in everyones home. I am sorry a burglar had to lose his life but that was his own decision and I'm glad Mr Brown was prepared to defend himself and his home. Self defense with a firearm is becoming more common & the demise of criminals has to be dewindling.
I am a buisness owner in Amarillo Tx.
In the early morning hours on Monday, Aug 16, a would-be burglar started smashing the front door window to my buisness. I had been closed for a couple of hours, and much to the criminal's surprise, I was in the rear of the building when he started his burglary attempt. I came into view of the front door, where I proceeded to yell at the person, and fired one .45 round through what was left of the door glass. The round is believed to have hit the driver side of his pickup truck, which was backed up near the front door.
I am a disabled 40 year old gun rights advocate that is very glad to have the right to bear arms. Had the burglar been able to complete entry, and I had not been armed, there is no telling what might have happ'd to me.
God bless America, and our troops that fight for our freedom.
