As reported, police say that at about 3AM, an armed home invader kicked down the front door of a house on the 1100 block of Oak Grove Lane and proceeded inside. The homeowner, one of the three people asleep inside the house, was awakened by the noise and grabbed his self defense handgun. When the home invader came to the homeowner’s bedroom door, the homeowner opened fire in self defense. The home invader was hit multiple times, prompting him to flee, and apparently causing him to drop the semi automatic rifle that he was carrying. Police reportedly arrested a suspect, 30 year old Dion Lewis, at a nearby hospital where he was said to be seeking treatment for gunshot wounds to his legs. None of the home’s occupants were harmed.
Once again – thanks to gun ownership – a home invasion has ended with a suspect in custody and the home occupants unharmed. Had this homeowner not had a gun for self defense, it is unlikely that he would have been able to save himself and the home’s other occupants from an armed intruder who broke in while they slept. Nor would calling the police have likely helped, since it would have taken at least minutes for the police to arrive, while the home invader could have harmed the occupants in seconds. Simply put, armed self defense saves lives.
