As reported, a70 year old woman shot an armed robber in self defense after he held her and her friends at gunpoint in their motel room.
Police say that the 70 year old grandmother, whose name has not been released, was staying at the Continent Inn Motel in Columbus, Ohio. She and the other members of the group were were in town for a horse show – the Quarter Horse Congress. They were in their motel room at about 9:15 PM, with the door open to provide fresh air, when an armed robber burst in and threatened the lives of those present while demanding money. The 70 year old woman grabbed her handgun and shot the robber, causing him to flee. Police arrived about 5 minutes later and found 25 year old Wayne M. Winston lying dead in the parking lot from a gunshot wound. Officers interviewed the grandmother and then released her without charges, stating that her justified self defense action may have saved the lives of the robbery victims.
As I’ve said numerous times in the past, armed senior citizens are in the best position to defend themselves against violent criminals who are usually younger and physically stronger. Thanks to this armed grandmother, she and her friends will go home to their families unharmed, and a violent robber will never again hurt another person.
