As reported, a Fresno, CA homeowner reportedly held a pair of burglars at gunpoint until the police arrived.
Police say that two burglars broke in to a home on the 5000 block of West Belmont. The homeowner is said to have returned home, caught the burglars in the act, and ordered them to lay on the ground. One of the burglars is said to have advanced on the homeowner, prompting him to fire a warning shot. After that shot was fired, the burglars reportedly followed the homeowners instructions to stay on the floor until police arrived. Two suspects, reportedly identified as 53 year old Clarence Leon Dews and 45 year old Archie Anthony Dews, have been arrested and charged with burglary and possession of stolen property, according to police. Dews reportedly had three outstanding arrest warrants and was said to be on parole from a felony conviction.
This is yet another self defense gun use where no criminal died, and no criminal was even shot. Some anti gun individuals like to call this a failure, since the armed citizen did not wound or kill the criminal. In fact, this is a success story, since the victim was able to use the gun to stop the criminals’ attack, which is the goal of self defense. Whether the criminal is wounded, killed, or held until the police arrive, when the law abiding citizen is saved we have yet another example of successful armed self defense.
