As reported, a man from the South American country of Guyana used his lawfully owned handgun to fend off 4 robbers who were attacking him with an ice pick:
Police say that the man car was parked at Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara, when the robbers attempted to break in to it. The man, who had a valid firearms license, went to investigate, only to be attacked by the four men, who were armed with an ice pick, according to police. Fearing for his safety, the man is said to have fired in self defense, striking one of the attackers and causing all four to flee. No injuries to the licensed firearm holder were reported.
Once again, guns are a valuable self defense tool – whether the victim is in the United States or any other country. Unarmed individuals can suffer a terrible fate when a criminal robs them, even if they fully cooperate with the criminal’s demands. The same is true for those who try to run from the robber.
On the other hand, fighting back against robbers can be quite effective as a means of reducing the risk of injury to the victim. This armed barber shot an armed criminal who threatened him and his son, saving their lives. This armed pet shop clerk shot an armed robber who threatened a fellow employee’s life, as well as his own life, preventing them both from being stabbed. This armed pizza delivery man defended himself against 3 armed robbers, and walked away unharmed. This armed citizen stopped a bank robber, while this armed Israeli citizen stopped a terrorist. I could go on with many more examples, but the point should be clear: Armed self defense works.
