As reported, an El Paso, Texas man used his gun to defend himself, his wife, and their children after a burglar entered their home:
Police say that the family was asleep in their home, on the 8000 block of Tonto Place, when an intruder broke in, just after 4:30 AM. The couple awakened to the sound of the home invasion and confronted the intruder, who is said to have attacked them in the master bedroom, according to police. Fearing for his safety and the safety of his family, the homeowner reportedly drew and fired his gun, striking the intruder and ending the attack. A suspect, reportedly identified through fingerprints as 20 year old Steven Abelta, was taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center, where he later died of his wounds. No injuries to the homeowners or their children were reported.
Home invading criminals are a deadly and terrible threat for every man, woman, and child in the residence. Victims of home invasion all too often suffer torture, rape, kidnapping, and murder at the hands of criminals who care more about a few dollars than human life.
The good news is that gun owners like this man can, and do, stop such criminals every day. Gun ownership saved this homeowner, and ensured that the suspect will never again invade another family’s home.
