As reported, a homeowner used his gun to stop 3 home invaders:
Police say that three armed men broke into an Alexandria, LA home around 4:30AM, intending to rob the occupants. The homeowner reportedly grabbed his gun and fired in self defense, striking two of the intruders and causing the trio to flee. One suspected intruder is said to have died from his wounds, police say. The two suspected accomplices, one of whom was himself shot as well, each face 2nd degree murder charges, under the felony murder rule, for the death of their alleged accomplice, according to news reports.
Those who are unarmed, or who are armed with an inferior weapon, will often end up overpowered by the criminal, with dire consequences. Nor can a citizen rely upon the police for protection, as they are minutes away while it takes a criminal who is breaking in just seconds to get to their victim. It is also important to note that the police will sometimes fail to help even when asked repeatedly, and they are not legally liable for that failure. Adding to the problem, police are 5.5 times more likely than an armed citizen to shoot the wrong person, meaning that there is a certain degree of danger any time there are armed police coming to the aid of a citizen. In sum, self defense is often a crime victim’s best – if not only – option.
A very good example of how effective self defense can be when a private citizen is properly prepared for such an invasion to ones
home. Wounding two out of three perpetrators says a lot. The action surely was close fast and likely confusing but the home owner has prevailed and he is to be commended for his actions. Sad that someone died but that person chose his own demise not the home owner. The home owner just obliged him by defending himself in a deadly situation with the only means that could possibly equalize himself to their intentions; a gun. I hope the home owner
will not suffer in any way because of his actions. Good guy wins and bad guy loses. The way it should always come down.
