As reported, a homeowner used his shotgun to stop a pair of home invaders:
Police say that the 30 year old Phoenix, Arizona homeowner’s house had been burglarized before, and in one incident the homeowner’s wife had chased away a burglar. When he heard an unusually loud knock on his front door last Tuesday, the homeowner reportedly feared that it might be another burglary attempt, and grabbed his shotgun. Moments later, a pair of intruders began forcing the door open, and despite the homeowner’s attempt at holding the door shut, the burglars were able to gain entry to the home, according to news reports. Acting in self defense, the homeowner reportedly fired his shotgun, striking one suspect in the buttocks and causing the other to flee. Police arrived an apprehended one 19 year old suspect and transported him to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and are seeking the second suspect. No injuries to the homeowner were reported.
Once again, we have an armed citizen who was able to successfully defend themselves against violent criminals – as happens about 2.5 million times each year in the USA. Rather than being shot because he had nothing of sufficient value for the robbers to steal, or just because the robbers were in a sadistic mood, this man was able to avoid injury. In addition to saving himself, this homeowner’s actions led to the arrest of at least one suspect, potentially saving other people from suffering a home invasion.
