As reported, a man reportedly his handgun to save himself and his girlfriend from three people who broke into their apartment:
Police say that at about 11:00 PM, three intruders broke into an apartment in the Westminister Club Apartments in Brunswick, GA, while the residents, a boyfriend and girlfriend, were home. The residents are said to have called police to report the home invasion, and the male resident reportedly fired his handgun in self defense at one of the intruders, causing all three to flee. 22 year old Michael Brown was reportedly charged with armed robbery and burglary after being treated for a gunshot wound to the arm at a local hospital, and his two uninjured alleged accomplices, identified as Thomas Daniels and April McMillan, both 18, face identical charges, according to news reports. No injuries to the apartment residents were reported.
Here we have yet another case in which a citizen was able to use their gun to stop a violent home invasion. By doing so, these residents saves themselves from the terrible harms that often befall unarmed home invasion victims. At the same time, society as a whole benefits, since crimes in which the suspect(s) are shot by the victims (thereby producing more physical evidence) tend to be easier (and cheaper) to prosecute, while also carrying less risk that an innocent person will be wrongly convicted.
