As reported, a burglar was fatally shot in self defense by an armed resident of the home which was burglarized:
Police say that a burglar entered a home on the 1300 block of Driftwood Drive North in Mobile, AL. A resident of the home is said to have acted in self defense, shooting the burglar in the chin area, and causing him to flee. When police arrived at about 9:45 PM, they reportedly found the body of 19 year old suspect Marcus Steele in the driveway, according to news reports. No injuries to the residents were reported.
Home invasions are a serious threat to the safety of those in the home, as criminals often murder, rape, kidnap, and otherwise harm their innocent victims. Had this resident not had a gun, it is almost certain that the police would not have been able to respond quickly enough to stop the crime.
Fortunately, the resident was armed for self defense, and as a result able to save their loved ones the emotional harm they could have suffered had the resident been killed or otherwise harmed. Additionally, this crime victim’s self defense actions have also taken at least one burglar off the streets, likely saving many other people from the terror and potentially lethal threat that is a home invasion.
