As reported, a homeowner used his gun to stop an armed burglar who entered and demanded prescription medication:
Police say that just before 7:45pm, a burglar entered a home on the 8400 block of South 30th Circle, while the 69 year old homeowner, and two other people, including a small child, were home. The burglar is said to have pulled out a gun and fired one shot into the ceiling, before forcing the homeowner into a back bedroom while demanding prescription medication. When the small child began to cry, the intruder reportedly stepped out of the bedroom to order everyone to be silent, giving the homeowner an opportunity to grab his gun. As the intruder reentered the back bedroom, the homeowner fired in self defense, fatally wounding the intruder and saving his family, according to news reports.
This is yet another in the to-long-to-count list of cases where law abiding citizens use firearms to defend themselves. The statistical evidence and real-life examples make clear the fact that armed self defense works – even when the victim is seemingly at a disadvantage due to a surprise attack. Thankfully, this homeowner was armed, and as a result was able to save himself and other innocent people from a violent home invasion.
