As reported, a homeowner in Mulvane, Kansas used his gun to stop an intruder during the early morning hours:
Police say that at about 3:30am on Wednesday, a burglar broke into a garage located on the 1000 block of E. 149th Avenue N. The homeowner reportedly heard strange sounds coming from the garage, and when he investigated found the intruder and held that intruder at gunpoint while his wife called 911. The intruder is said to have attacked the homeowner, prompting him to fire in self defense. A suspect was taken to the hospital, suffering from one gunshot wound to the chest, and was listed in serious but stable condition, according to news reports, and police state that no charges against the homeowner are expected.
Once again, gun ownership is the best way to defend oneself when facing a home invasion Those who are unarmed, or who are armed with an inferior weapon, will often end up overpowered by the criminal, with dire consequences. Nor can a citizen rely upon the police for protection, as they are minutes away while it takes a criminal who is breaking in just seconds to get to their victim. It is also important to note that the police will sometimes fail to help even when asked repeatedly, and they are not legally liable for that failure. Adding to the problem, police are 5.5 times more likely than an armed citizen to shoot the wrong person, meaning that there is a certain degree of danger any time that there are armed police coming to the aid of a citizen.
