As reported, a burglary in Columbus, Ohio ended with the burglar being shot in self defense by the armed renter of the apartment:
Police say that at about 7:50pm on Wednesday, they received a call from the 4600 block of Stonecastle Drive, regarding an in-progress burglary. A suspect was found dead at the scene from a gunshot wound, after the resident of the apartment fired in self defense as the suspect was entering through a front window of the apartment, according to news reports. Police are searching for two suspected accomplices and believe this break-in was connected to a break-in at a neighboring apartment. No injuries to the apartment renter were reported.
Once again, gun ownership is the best way to defend oneself when facing a home invasion Those who are unarmed, or who are armed with an inferior weapon, will often end up overpowered by the criminal, with dire consequences. Nor can a citizen rely upon the police for protection, as they are minutes away while it takes a criminal who is breaking in just seconds to get to their victim. It is also important to note that the police will sometimes fail to help even when asked repeatedly, and they are not legally liable for that failure. Adding to the problem, police are 5.5 times more likely than an armed citizen to shoot the wrong person, meaning that there is a certain degree of danger any time that there are armed police coming to the aid of a citizen.
