A recent Gallup poll shows that 54% of Americans have a positive view of the National Rifle Association.
Fifty-four percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the National Rifle Association, while 38% have an unfavorable opinion. . . On a more granular basis, 21% of Americans have a very favorable opinion of the NRA, and 18% have a very unfavorable opinion. These strong opinions have held roughly the same over the years, with the notable exception of 1995, when 26% reported a very unfavorable opinion of the NRA. . . Favorable opinions of the NRA are much higher than average among the 45% of Americans who report having a gun in the household — although one in four view the NRA unfavorably. At the same time, four in 10 of those without a gun in the household have a favorable opinion of the NRA. . The National Rifle Association continues to have a majority favorable image in the eyes of the American public, as it has in all but one of the seven surveys in which Gallup has measured it since 1993.
Out of that 38% who hold a negative opinion of the NRA, I wonder how many base that opinion on misinformation about the NRA, myths from the media, or just unfounded dislike?

I have been an NRA member for over 40 years & on occasion we have had a difference of opinions. I threatened to stop my membership when Illinois legislators & citizens had a concealed carry bill up & it gave any county an opt out option which would have been Cook & two or three other counties but the rest of the state would have had a carry law.The NRA proceeded to strongly lobby against the bill because they wanted Cook county included. They were successful in defeating the bill. Since then the NRA has taken a more active part in Illinois Carry bills so I guess it has worked out. The state of Illinois is still denied concealed carry. On the other hand I have to admit that without the NRA this country would be like Great Britan & all gun owners owe them some recognition for the many years of looking after our guns & gun rights…. I urge all gun owners to join the NRA if not already a member.
I finally joined the NRA in 2012. As a Black man, I must admit I was a little bit skeptical, but I read your article about misconceptions about the NRA and it convinced me to join.
As a black man you should also know that the NRA is the countries oldest civil rights organization.
