As reported, a burglar in Albertville, Alabama was fatally shot in self defense by the owner of the home.
Police say that the owner of a rental home in Albertville, AL has recently had problems with someone committing burglaries, and decided to sleep at the house. An intruder broke into the home, at which point the homeowner fired his gun in self defense, striking the intruder and ending the burglary, according to news reports. Police have reportedly identified 41 year old Jamison Lynn Lacey as the suspected burglar who was fatally wounded.
One comment on the news website stated “Boom! Problem solved, 0% chance of convicting the wrong person for the crime.” Indeed, one of the many benefits of armed self defense is the virtual elimination of wrongful prosecutions of innocent people. When an armed citizen fatally shoots an intruder, there is no mistake as to the identify of the intruder and no risk that an innocent person will be incorrectly charged for that intruder’s crime. In cases where the intruder is wounded, they are often swiftly apprehended at a nearby hospital with a greatly reduced risk of misidentification. Armed self defense protects the victim as well as other innocent members of society who might otherwise be falsely accused of a crime they did not commit.
