As reported, a woman in her 60’s used her gun to stop a late night home invader who broke in and sexually assaulted her.
Police say that at about 1:30am, a woman heard a knock at door of her Kansas City, MO home. The woman answered the door, only to have a 24 year old male force his way inside her home and sexually assault her, according to news reports. After being sexually assaulted, the woman was able to grab her self defense gun and fatally shoot the attacker, according to police.
Armed crime victims are in the best position possible to save themselves and their children. A few other examples: This armed mother saved her daughter from a rapist, while this armed daughter saved her mother from a a violent home invader. Similarly, this armed elderly woman held a burglar at gunpoint and made him call the police on himself, while this armed grandmother shot an intruder in self defense. This armed woman shot a rapist who returned to rape her a second time, while this armed woman saved herself and her son from a daytime burglar. The real-life examples of armed self defense and statistical evidence supporting the effectiveness of armed self defense are both clear – armed self defense works.
Those opposed to self defense will certainly note that the woman was unable to stop the attacker before she was sexually assaulted. To that I would note a couple of things:
Firstly, from the news reports it does not appear that the woman went to the door with her gun, which would make it hard for the 60+ year old woman to overpower a much younger male attacker at her door. She did, however, manage to get her gun later and defend herself, despite those initial disadvantages during the home invasion.
Secondly, even though she was unable to stop her attacker beforehand, she has ensured that no other women would suffer at the hands of this attacker. She has ensured that no innocent man would be prosecuted for the crimes of that attacker due to mistaken identity, which sadly happens all too often. She has also ensured that no innocent bystanders will be shot by trigger-happy cops on the hunt for a suspect.
Finally, note that this woman is not the first to successfully defend herself despite facing a surprise attack and an initial disadvantage. As another example, this armed man managed to get his gun and defend himself after a violent revenge-seeking attacker decided to settle a dispute after 20 years. Similarly, this elderly man managed to grab a self defense gun, despite being shocked with a stun gun and beaten by a 24 year old man. This man managed to draw his concealed carry handgun and shoot an armed robber in self defense, despite the fact that that robber was standing behind him and pointing a shotgun at his back. This jewelry store owner managed to grab his gun from under a desk, despite the fact that two robbers were in his store, one of whom had a gun pointed at him.
