As reported, a mother and son used a gun stop a burglar who was breaking in to their Pasadena, Texas home.
Police say that at about 6:30am, a burglar broke multiple windows in the front of the house. Both the mother and son who lived in the house are said to have fired a gun in self defense, striking the burglar 3 times and causing non-life-threatening injuries, according to news reports. A suspect, who is said to have a lengthy criminal record, was reportedly apprehended and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Those who are unarmed, or who are armed with an inferior weapon, will often end upoverpowered by the criminal, with dire consequences. Nor can a citizen rely upon the police for protection, as they are minutes away while it takes a criminal who is breaking in just seconds to harm their victim. It is also important to note that the police will sometimes fail to help even when asked repeatedly, and they are not legally liable for that failure. Adding to the problem, police are 5.5 times more likely than an armed citizen to shoot the wrong person, meaning that there is a certain degree of danger anytime there are armed police coming to the aid of a citizen.
The solution, as this mother and son know, is to be armed for self defense.
