A homeowner in Cape Coral, Florida used his gun to detain a would-be intruder until the police arrived.
News reports say that a Cape Coral man saw saw an intruder attempting to break into his house through his doorbell camera, and went outside to investigate while his wife called 911. The homeowner reportedly found the burglar, who was in possession of stolen guns and other property from previous burglaries, and held him at gunpoint until the police arrived. As the arriving police officer directed the burglar to freeze, he instead ran off. After a chase, police soon apprehended a suspect who court records reveal had previously been arrested and shot by police after a standoff. No injuries to the homeowner were reported.
Home invasion robberies are a deadly threat to homeowners and anyone else who happens to be inside the home. Residents may be tortured, seriously harmed, and even killed by criminals – even they fully cooperate with the criminals’ demands.
Rather than being left at the (non-existent) mercy of criminals, armed citizens are in the best position possible to defend themselves. Here, a homeowner managed to stop a burglary and cause a suspect to be apprehended, all without firing a shot. Armed self defense works.
